Malaysia Super Car Series Round 1 Race 1&2
Sepang Malaysia 22nd April 2007

Once again a good start for the MSS. I qualified 2nd. This year there is a very fast Radical SR3 which is half the weight of my Porsche 996 GT3 and with a V8 engine. The car was driven by Wira Dani Diam of Malaysia. He took pole position.

The first race I had a good start and after the 4th corner I couldn’t see any one so I took easy for a while and then I saw the radical getting closer so I pulled away and finished 1st with a gap of 16 seconds to Wira. Ron Lim was 3rd.

In the 2nd race I started on pole because I won the 1st race and had a good start. By lap 8, I had a 8 second gap with Wira and on the 9th lap my clutch started slipping and I had to slow down and I was about 6 second slower each lap I had nothing to do but to finish the race so only way was slower the pace. By 12th lap Wira over took me. I finished 2nd and Ron was 3rd. Luckily Ron couldn’t get close to me because I had a very big gap between him.

According to the rules of MSS the person who wins the 2nd race and if he was the 2nd in the first race becomes the winner. So Wira was the winner I was second and Ron was 3rd. Now Wira and I both have 35 points and Ron has 24 points. I ran without rebuilding my gear box and engine after Dubai 24 hour race so the life of the clutch is over. Soon after the race I sent the Engine and the gear box to Germany for rebuilding and we will have it before the next round on the 27th of May.

The Radical is very much faster than my car but it is good because now we can have good competition and it will be good for spectators. But I have to think of a way to make my car a bit faster other wise it will be difficult to beat Wira but I will not give up. Peter Hills couldn’t make it for this race and Chong who finished 2nd in the Championship last year was there but after qualifying he had problems with his gear box so unfortunately he also couldn’t compete. So the next round will be really tough with Wira , Peter and also Chong. Stewart who drove the Porsche 993 has also bought a Mazda as same as Peter so we will have great competition for the next MSS race. I should thank Vince and his VRD Motor sports boys for the great work and also specially for Ian Geekie who always support me in every way. He won both races in his class in the classic car race which was on the same day and I was really happy for him.

Any way it feels really good to bring glory for my home land Sri Lanka and I also want to thank the Sri Lanka Media for their great support.

On the 6th of May I will compete in the PCCA round 3 & 4 again in Sepang and I must give good run for the other drivers and it is high time to get to the podium watch this time
