Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Round 5 & 6 Sentul
Indonesia July 21st & 22nd 2007.
The testing was good and I was doing good times and was
always on the top 6.
I qualified 6th.
Round 5
My start was not good so Nigel got in front of me but I
was able to do few good laps and did the 4th fastest time
which was almost 0.5 seconds faster than qualifying. After
few laps I had a over steer problem but was able to finish
6th.
Round 6
Again I had a bad start and Nigel and Peter got in front
of me so it took almost 2 laps to get in front of Peter who
was doing great and I think the problem I had was I ran with
low tire pressure and it took about 3 laps to get the correct
tire temperatures. Any way I was able to finish 6th. Now
I know I can be on the podium but need the last fine tuning
which I think will be able to do in the next round in Chengdu
which will be a new circuit for all of us. The most important
thing is this year I don’t have a personal engineer and all
the other top 10 drivers have so some times I am lost because
I cannot read my data. But for sure I will have some one
for the next race. |

Malaysian Super Series Round 3 Sepang F1
Circuit Malaysia July 29th.
I couldn’t do testing on Friday as my engine didn’t arrive
from Germany. After the Asian GT I had to send my engine
back to Germany because there was a problem with it. Luckily
Michelin Tires had one of their cars in Malaysia and they
were so nice to lend me the engine. Any way we had a 20 minute
test session on Saturday so was able to check the car.
I qualified 3rd. Wira took pole and Peter Hills was 2nd.
I ran with the old tires and was only 0.2 seconds behind
Peter. Wira was 2 seconds faster than us with his super Radical.
I was not much worried about the qualifying because I knew
I could do good in the race.
Race 1.
I ran with the old tires because I knew the 2nd
race was more important so kept the new tires for the 2nd
race. Wira
got the lead to the first corner and it was very difficult
to catch him but I was able to finish 2nd.
Race 2.
I put on the new tires and I knew I can win the race
I got the lead to the first corner and never had a challenge
from
any one after few laps I couldn’t see any one and I took it
cool I finished 1st and was 14 seconds ahead of peter Hills
and 17 seconds ahead of Wira. As I won the 2nd race I was
the winner and now I am leading the championship for the
first time with 105 points and Wira is 102 points. Wira’s
Radical is too fast and Peter’s Mazda is also much faster
than my car so I will have big challenge in the last 2 rounds
but will do my best to win the championship again.
I must thank VRD motor sports for once again doing a great
Job, Michelin Tires for lending me their engine without that
I wouldn’t have been able to win and also my Special thanks
to Ian Geekie Manager Porsche carrera Cup Asia for the great
support and advice he gives me and to all media personals
from Sri Lanka and Malaysia for giving so much publicity
and for my sponsors
