Aston Martin Asia Cup Round 9& 10
at Zhuhai International Circuit China
13th& 14th December 2008.

I was 16 points behind Sasaki when I went to Zhuhai I knew it was difficult to win the Championship if Sasaki finished both races. Until the last race in Shanghai I was leading the championship but due to brake failure I had a crash in the 1st lap.
When we started testing on the Friday still we had problems with the brakes but the mechanics and the Aston Martin management did their best to fix it.
In qualifying I lost brakes completely and ended up in the gravel but was able to qualify 3rd. Sasaki was fastest with Tim Sugden 2nd. Any way I went almost 4 seconds faster than testing but was still 2 seconds behind Sasaki.

Round 9.
After qualifying the mechanics changed few more parts and once I started the race I knew after few laps I still had the problem but took it easy as I knew I had to finish at least to finish 2nd in the championship any way I was able to keep the pace and finish 2nd. Sasaki was 1st and Hamamm was 3rd.
We were racing against the Asian GT cars and we had the slowest cars but was able to beat most of the Asian GT cars.

Round 10.
After round 9 we still had the brake problems but changed few more parts. I got a very good start and battled with Sasaki for 3 laps but then again I felt the brakes were not perfect and thought to take it easy and finish the race because I knew I cannot over take Sasaki and Hamamm was 3rd but I had a big gap. This time it was really good because Sasaki and I was able to beat most of the Asian GT cars which were more powerful cars and I think it was good for Aston Martin to be in front of the other cars such as Porsche, Ferrari and Corvette. I finished 2nd. Sasaki won and Hammam once again finished 3rd.

It was a very good season except for the problems in Singapore and Shanghai
I was thinking I would win the championship. But Sasaki never made a mistake and drove very well. But as for Sri Lanka I am very proud I could finish 2nd in the championship the first ever Aston Martin Cup race in the world and also to win the first 2 races of the season this will take Sri Lanka in to history. Sasaki won the championship and Melvin Choo was second runner up.
This is what I always want to do to bring glory to our mother land Sri Lanka. I must thank every one who helped me through out the season my family for giving me moral support and specially to Steve Waudby who has thought me to go faster and faster and being my engineer for this year he really helped me and I learnt a lot.
Also Ian Geeki of Aston Martin Asia Cup managing director who helped me so much all the mechanics and to all the fans and once again special thanks to Sri Lanka
Media who has supported me through out my career.
I am so happy I finished 2nd in the Aston Martin championship and 3rd in the Malaysian Super Car championship this year.
I will do my best to win more championships for Sri Lanka next year and hope there will be more companies in Sri Lanka and Sri Lankans living overseas to sponsor me.
