Porsche Carrera Cup Asia
Round 1 & 2 , 22nd & 23rd March 2008

Another Competitive and exciting year. We all got the new cars but I was unable to get my new car in time for the official testing days. So I had to test with my old car.

This is year I have a new sponsor Speed Sri Lanka so things are very much easier for me. Also the other good news is I have got an excellent engineer from UK Steve Waudby.

During our testing I went 2 seconds faster than last year Steve gave me all the good tips and a great set up.

I got my new car one week later and we just got one day to test but with a Singapore track day with so many cars so we couldn’t do much. My daughters did the design of the new car and it looks great with the Sri Lankan sports colours Blue and Yellow.

The round 1 & 2 was in Sepang for the F1.

We had testing of 25 minutes only and qualifying 15 minutes. Last year I was 3.5 seconds slower than the pole sitter but this year I was only 1.5 seconds behind which was really good. I qualified 8th. I think we need bit more time to get a good set up as Steve couldn’t get much data on the car as we tested only 1 hour comparing to others which they had about 6 hours.

Race 1.
I had a good start and was able to finish 7th just 2 seconds behind Matthew. In the past years I couldn’t keep up with him.

Race 2.
I had a very bad start and had few knocks on the turn 1 and I couldn’t control the car for few laps and Alain and Hammam over took me and the other bunch from behind was on my bumper I knew I had a problem but didn’t know what it was but I over took Hammam and Alain and was getting closer to Matthew and finished 6th. After the race I found out the front lip was broken and was hanging all the way through out the race and that caused all the problems. But I was happy to finish 7th and 6th and get points and I am sure next race will be very exciting.

This year Speed Sri Lanka is having a special program on TV in Sri Lanka and I get 30 minutes on the Sinhalese channel and 30 minutes on the English channel every Saturday so all the Sri Lankans are able to watch every race and know about the series too. There are 5 TV crew traveling with me for all the races. So with Speed Sri Lanka I am sure I can do very well this year.
