58th Macau Grand Prix
20th November 2011

I competed in the 58th Macau Grand Prix which is the most difficult race in the world and where every champion wants to be on podium. With 7 years of effort at last I was able to finish and get to the podium with many dramas. Sri Lanka flag was flying high at the Macau Grand prix for almost a week with flags from the top countries. I am so happy and proud to be on the podium making Sri Lanka only one of the Asian Countries to do so.

I had a big accident on Fridays qualifying and we were about to end the race as I didn't have enough spares and unfortunately we couldn't borrow from any team. We had already given up the idea of fixing it when few of my Sri Lankan friedns living in Macau took us to a work shop owned by an Englishman Neville Mc Kay who turned out all the parts for me through out the night which was a miracle. My crew fixed the car by morning and we were ready for the next qualifying. The car was only 80% but I was able to qualify 10th overall and 3rd in class.

During the race in lap 3 we had a big accident which destroyed about 6 cars but I escaped again with a miracle and the race was red flagged but restarted again and I finished 2nd. There was nothing more we could expect. I always beleive in God and this was another example. I would like to thank all my Sri Lankan friends in Macau with out whom I could have ever raced after the accident and my crew. One more dream of mine came true and I am sure every Sri Lankan can be happy and proud about it.
