2006 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia
Round 1 & 2 at Sepang March 18th and 19th.

Once again I have joined the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and I am sure this year will be very good with every one having a new 997. There is a lot learn with the new car with the Sequential gear box and with no ABS any more. We had test days on the 18th and 19th of February and I am getting used to the car now.

We have got more experienced drivers now specially 3 drivers form Japan.

I qualified 10th for the round 1.

The first race we had on Saturday afternoon. On the 4th corner I had bump with Alain and damaged the front and also the sides. I thought I will not be able to finish the race because the water temperature was getting high and I could also see smoke coming from the left front tire. I slowed a little bit but was fortunate to finish 9th.

The second race I started 9th on the grid and for most of the laps I was on the tail of the first bunch until I made a shift miss but finished 8th. I was happy with the results and 15 points from both races and hope to do better in the 3rd and 4th round which will be on the 14th of May.

This year we decide to paint the car with Sri Lankan colours and it was Ranjan Paranawithana a famous journalist in Sri Lanka who designed it for me and my daughter gave the final touches. I have Andy Pardoe as my driver trainer this year so I am very confident and we will have good results soon.

Malaysian Super Car series.

This year I will be also competing in the Malaysian Super car series with my last year’s 996 cup car which is 5 rounds and also the Medekar 12 hour race.

I had the first race on the 16th of April. There were so many different cars which was really great.

I qualified 4th .

The first race I finished 2nd. The car which finished 1st driven by Peter Hills was a special Mazda RX7. This was almost a prototype car which was very lighter than my car and also had about 450hp. I was able to pass him in few corners but on the straights he was too fast.

The 2nd race also I finished 2nd. But next race I will find a way to beat him. I must thank my Malaysia Crew for taking care of the car and doing a great Job. Hon. Janaka Bandar

Tennakoon Minister of Provincial Council and Local Government came all the way from Sri Lanka to support me and I must thank him. He has been supporting me from last year and I am so proud to have him in our pits. Next round will be on the 28th of May
