Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Round 5 & 6
Beijing June 11th.
This was the best race for me for this season. When we started
testing we got a very good set up and my driver trainer Andy
Pardoe gave me very good tips and we were doing well on testing.
When I went for qualifying I did a good lap and came in
to see my position but I was 9th. So Andy said I have to
go 0.7 seconds faster and he said which might be a little
bit difficult. But I went out and did the time he wanted
me to do. I felt great and finished 7th in qualifying and
5 cars above me was only within 0.5 seconds and the fastest
was only 0.7 seconds faster. But they were all over 1 second
faster than me in testing I was overjoyed with the qualifying
times. The fast 2 Japanese GT drivers were behind me and
0.5 seconds slower.
Round 5.
My start was not so good so Nishizawa got in front of me
but we had a nose to tail fight and I knew I was faster
but as this is a very narrow circuit it was difficult to
over take. Then I made a mistake and went to the grass
and Yamaji also went in front of me. Nishisawa had a spin
and Yamaji and I got in front of him. I was trying to overtake
Yamaji but was very difficult and the only chance I had
was in braking. I tried to overtake him in the first corner
and was too fast and had a spin where I had to fall back
to 10th from 5th place . It took me a while to start the
engine but I over took few and finished 7th.
Round 6
I had a better start and by the 3rd corner I was 6th. Then
started battling with Nishizawa and was able to overtake
him around the 10th lap on the first hairpin which was
risky but I had to do it. Yamaji was away but I was able
to catch him but finished 5th which was a very good result
and my lap times were faster than Yamaji. I am so happy
to beat these 2 as they are very fast and most experienced
drivers who have done not Japan GT but Le Mans and so many
international races. I think now we know a lot about the
car and braking so the next round I am sure we will finish
in a very good finish hoping to win. I must thank Andy
and my engineer Vince for giving be me the best we were
so happy and ended up having a small party at Hard rock
cafEin Beijing. I must thank every one who has supported
me mainly my sponsor Mr.Hayashi and the Sri Lanka media.

Malaysia Super Car Race Round 2 at Sepang on the 28th
May I took pole position. Which was great and Peter was
just 0.01 seconds slower.
Race 1 was on heavy rain I was able to get to the first corner
on the front but on the 5th corner I had a big spin and fell
back to the last. I thought it was the end of the race luckily
the car didnt get stuck in the mud. I was able to overtake
every one except the leader who was driving a 4WD Lancer
EVO. So I ended up 2nd. Peter was slow in the wet.
Race 2 on the start the EVO blocked me leaving space for
Peter to get to the front as usual he was too fast on the
straight to overtake so I finished in the 2nd place. Although
I finished 2nd in both races totally I was awarded 3rd place
because the other 2 drivers had the same points. Next race
of the Malaysian Super car will be on the 25th of June and
this will be the whole track so hopefully Will do my best
to win as 24th will be my birthday.
