Merdeka 12 Hour Race at Sepang 26th 27th August.

I drove the car with Ian Geekie and Nick Thomas. We qualified 5th on the grid. I started the race and by the first corner I was 3rd and kept it up until I did the first stint. The 1st was the Lotus which was a GT car and 2nd was the Porsche 996 GT3 same as our car but with a modified engine which had about 90hp more so it was difficult to keep up with them but I thought during the race we could beet them. Ian drove next to me and had a flat spot and he had to slow down by the time he came to the pits we were 5th again.

The biggest problem was when I did my 2nd stint it started raining and was around 4 am and the blower didn’t work so I could hardly see any thing so I had to come to the pits to fix it but couldn’t do much only thing was to go slowly. I couldn’t see a thing and it was really scary because I couldn’t see some times I was on the grass.

So we were on the 9th position but after the day light I started pushing and was faster than the front cars my lap times were very consistent so I could pass one by one. Ian and Nick was doing their best at last we finished 5th. I am sure if not for the problem with the blower we would have at least finished 2nd. The engineer and the mechanics did a great job with the car and we didn’t have any mechanical problems. The other problem we had was our refueling system was very slow comparing to the cars were in front so we lost lot of time there but had a great race and was happy to finish 5th. I should admit Porsches are great cars. We are planning to do the Dubai 24 hour race on the 13th and 14th of January with the same car.

My next race will be Porsche Carrera Cup Asia at Shanghai on the 30th of this month.
